Bell's Expedition Stout

One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Bell's Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.

My Thoughts:  This beer was on draft and came served in a very large snifter.  The color was a deep chocolate brown with only a slight light brown lace around the edge of the glass.  The head was nonexistent but the smell was very potent!  Coffee, Chocolate and roasted malts were jumping out of the glass at my nose.  The smell continued right into the taste.  Hints of dark coffee, dark chocolate and sweet roasted malt and caramel all came through from beginning to end and each flavor was very balanced and not overpowering.  This beer is 100% full bodied.  Very thick and creamy with carbonation that works will with the high ABV! The drinkability of this beer to me was very high.  Beers that are over 10% ABV are hit or miss with me in the drinkability category.  Sometimes I only want one, however, This is a brew that I could very easily drink more than one.  I hope to find it again on draft!
