Here is what the Brewer Says:
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. 10.3%ABV
My Thoughts: This beer poured orange/copper in color and was mildly transparent. There was a fair amount of head that ended up leaving a thick coating of lacing throughout. The smell was very strong of grapefruit with a slight sweet caramel malt that managed to get past the intense tropical scent. If the smell was great the taste was even better. From the start you are greeted with grapefruit, orange, mango, pineapple, and apricot....This was a tropical fruit hop paradise. The back end of this beer had just enough caramel malt to add some texture, body and some balancing sweetness. The lingering pine hope resin left me wanting another sip right away. This is a hoppy, hoppy brew, but is not over done! Mouthfeel was medium/full with an excellent sticky characteristic that played off the medium/high carbonation. Drinkability on this 102IBU, 10.3% ABV brew was through the roof for me. The ABV does come out a bit as it warms, but in no way got in the way of this amazing Imperial IPA. I'd have to say this is one of the best Imperial IPAs I've had the pleasure of drinking!

Thanks for sharing. IPA is one of my favourites with my local having an amazing one.
ReplyDelete10.3% is high though and I might struggle to handle many of these.
