Heavy Seas The Greater Pumpkin - Imperial Pumpkin

Here is what the Brewer says: Our Greater Pumpkin  is our Great Pumpkin but enhanced by aging in bourbon barrels.  VERY limited release.  The Great Pumpkin is brewed as follows: (We add the pumpkin during the mash at precisely the right time to create just the perfect balance of malt, hops, pumpkin and spice)
9%ABV

My Thoughts: This beer poured a hazy amber color with a hint of copper.  Head was minimal but lacing remained throughout the drink. The smell was clearly pumpkin with cinnamon and clove.  What was surprising was that I didn't get as much bourbon smell as expected.  I would say it smelled slightly better than the regular Great Pumpkin because the smell was more well balanced. Flavor goes straight to pumpkin and cinnamon and near the late middle/end the bourbon flavor is subtlety introduced.   Also in the middle/end a slight hop presence is noted which really helps out the alcohol flavor that shows its hand near the end as well.  The body is medium as is the carbonation.  This beer is very smooth and easy to drink.  I could very easily sit back and enjoy a few of these on a nice crisp fall/winter day. As good ad the drinkability is... Drinker beware, the 9%ABV will creep up on you!

My Rating: Overall 90.75/100
look: 4.25 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.25 | drink: 4.5
