Here is what the Brewer Says:
Jack McAuliffe is the original microbrewer. McAuliffe’s tiny New Albion Brewery in Sonoma, California inspired countless brewers to start small-scale breweries of their own. Jack agreed to guest brew this very special ale with us in honor of our 30th anniversary. This American barleywine is a nod to the big ales New Albion served at their legendary summer solstice parties. It is robust and complex – brewed with 100% American Cascade hops.
10.2%ABV
My Thoughts: This is an American Barleywine. I have to say I'm not a barleywine fan, but this beer was amazing. The color was dark with a brownish white head. The smell was amazing. Sweet, roasted and hoppy profiles jumped out of the glass. Tasting was a real treat! It was full of dark flavors like roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and yet has a distinct hop flavor to it. Body was medium and the carbonation was perfect. It was a great beer to sip and enjoy. The high ABV is masked so well by the complex flavors that you'll want to drink it fast...but beware this is not one that you'll want to drink fast because you'll miss the great flavors!
