Big Sky Brewing IPA - Craft Beer Review #166

Here is what the Brewer says:
In Montana, many classic memories are made right after someone says, “Hold my beer and watch this.” These bold, assertive moments deserve a bold, assertive beer – Big Sky IPA. A distinct hop presence and malty backbone will leave you refreshed and ready for your moment of glory. Hang on tight and enjoy the ride. Big Sky IPA has 65 IBU's, 5% alcohol by weight, and 6.2% alcohol by volume.
Looks:  This beer poured pretty transparent with a dark copper/rust color.  The head was rich and foamy after a vigorous pour but quickly diminished to just a ring of off white.  It did leave nice lacing throughout.

Smell:  The smell was somewhat pine resiny along with with some grapefruit and fair amount of caramel.

Taste:  After what was a pretty bold smelling IPA, it was rather tame in the flavor.  The resin like piney hops came through at first but were quickly balanced by a sweet caramel and almost bready like flavor mid drink.  The finish on this was does have some drying bitterness that lingers on, but overall the hop flavor was pretty mild for an IPA.

Mouthfeel:  The mouthfeel was both creamy and sticky, but not super complex.

Drinkability:  This was a balanced IPA and if you like your ipas a little less hoppy and a bit more sweet then this one is for you.  For me, I was happy I bought just one because there are others that are more hop driven that I'd prefer to drink.   As you can tell from my limited notes, this one just left me without much to say, which is usually not the case!

Serving Type: 12oz bottle
My Rating: Overall 73.2/100
Look:4 | Smell:3.5 | Taste:3.7 | MouthFeel:3.7 | Drinkability:3.5
