Surly Wet - Craft Beer Review #158

Here is what the Brewer says:
4,800 lbs of hops picked fresh in Washington and shipped to Minnesota immediately. We brewed this beer three days later. This is a hop-forward beer, dry with subdued malt flavors.
STYLE: West Coast India Pale Ale MALT: 2-Row, Crystal Crystal WET HOPS: Citra, Simcoe BITTERING HOPS: Columbus YEAST: English Ale ABV:7.5% IBU:90 AVAILABILITY: October
My Thoughts:
Appearance:  This brew poured transparent orange with a hint of yellow depending on the light.   It poured with a pretty substantial white foamy head that reduced after a few minutes.  The lacing was very sticky throughout, even down to the last sip.  This really is a great looking beer.

Smell:  Hops explode out of the glass in a very aggressive nature.  Pine, citrus, grapefruit, lemon and a very distinct grassy smell all are present and provide a wonderful experience on the nose!   This is one of the best wet hopped beer's I've ever smelled.

Taste:  If the nose was any indication, I was in for a real treat.  I'm happy to report that the flavor did not disappoint.  Huge amounts of pine resin and grapefruit dominate your palate from first sip through the after taste. There is a wonderful lingering bitterness that seems to go in forever.  The problem is I couldn't wait longer than a minute or two between sips before I was dying for another taste.   What malt there is, is used simply to give this beer some body.  This truly is a ultra-fresh hop monster in a can!

Mouthfeel:  Sticky and wet describe this brew perfectly.  Every hop in the can seems to stick to your taste buds and provide you with an amazing experience   The body and carbonation are both medium, but drinker beware this is a huge beer!

Drinkability:  Being a hop lover this beer gives me everything I want in a 16oz can.  Massive wet hops, amazing flavor, and a mouthfeel that leaves the hops teasing me from start to finish.

Serving Type: 16oz can
My Rating: Overall 97.2/100
Look:4.8 | Smell:4.9 | Taste:4.9 | MouthFeel:4.8 | Drinkability:4.8

This beer is not sold in Ohio.  You'll have head to Minneapolis, Minnesota to pick up this brew!  Special thanks to Bobby Massie and Rick Seibt for picking me up a couple cans of this amazing brew!
