The Black Rat is a juggernaut of a beer. This imperial, milk stout is big and full of flavor and may remind you of an Irish coffee with lots of cream and sugar. This monster beer clocks in at 9.2% A.B.V. It truly is bitter sweet and velvety smooth.

My Thoughts:
This beer poured black as coal with a slight tan head that ended up leaving a good amount of lacing throughout. The smell was of dark chocolate, a mild coffee bitterness, and fresh roasted malt. The smell alone lets you know this beer is going to be something very tasty. Dark rich chocolate start out and are followed by smooth rich dark malt. I can't say the word smooth enough with this beer. The flavors just all blend together in harmony. The rich creamy nature of this beer ends with a little smokiness and just a hint of the bitter coffee that was in the nose. The mouthfeel is rich, creamy and full bodied with mild/low carbonation. (I would LOVE to see this beer poured on nitro!) Drinkability...This is a 4 season stout. I could drink this on the hottest summer day or the coldest winter night.

I hope that Cellar Rats gets creative with this stout like Great Divide does with their Yeti line. An oak aged version, a coffee version and a vanilla version would all be risks that this beer could probably pull off with great success.
