Bear Republic Brewery Red Rocket Ale

Here is what the Brewer says:
American Amber Ale
Red Rocket Ale is a bastardized Scottish style red ale that traces it's origins to our homebrew roots. This full bodied and hoppy brew finishes on the palate with sweet, caramel malt flavors.
ABV: 6.8% IBU: 67

My Thoughts: This beer poured a brownish red with a off white foamy head that quickly reduced to a small ring.  The smell a little surprising based on the color.  It was very heavy with floral and citrus hops, but still had a sweet malty smell to it.  The taste follows the nose on this one, but in a somewhat reversal of flavors.  As hoppy as the nose was, the malt took over in terms of the main flavor.  The initial flavor of sweet caramel malt and some sugar is with you from start to finish.  The hops do come into play but not really until the second half of the drink.  There is a bitterness to it mid drink and at the end which really helps to balance out the overall flavor of this brew.   Mouth feel was a little thicker, it was a creamy, smooth brew with perfection carbonation.   Drinkability is good on this one, not great.  After a 22oz bottle I was content and not really yearning for another one.   That being said I would buy it again because it was tasty, I just don't see myself sitting around all day and drinking these during a game.

Serving Type: 22oz bottle

My Rating: Overall 80.25 /100
look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | drink: 3.75
