Magic Hat Howl

Here is what the Brewer Says:
Black-As-Night Winter Lager Born of dark and cold and snow in the marrow of the northeast's longest night, HOWL comes in on wailing winds with winter-weary eyes burning holes in sunless shadows. In its darkened depths out inner voids are warmed.
  • TYPE: Black Lager
  • YEAST: Lager Yeast
  • HOPS: Apollo, Hallertau
  • MALTS: Pale, Crystal, Carafa
The pour of this brew is very dark  with a hint of brown but mostly black.  The head out of the bottle remained almost throughout the entire glass.   The smell is complex...I smelled very faint coffee, smoke, malt and yeast.  The first taste you really get the roasted malt and smokey flavors.  The coffee smell really didn't come through in flavor because the other flavors were simply more powerful. Howl maintains a medium body and medium carbonation.  It is a very drinkable winter seasonal from Magic Hat.   The roasted malt used in this is not too sweet, but still remains a very powerful flavor for this dark lager!

Serving Type: Bottle

My Rating: Overall 73.75/100
